Knowledge Cutoff

What it is
The knowledge cutoff is the date after which a model has no training information. If a model's cutoff is January 2024, it doesn't know about events, publications, or changes after that date. The model may be aware of its cutoff and can tell you when asked.
Why it matters
Knowledge cutoffs explain why AI can't discuss recent events or may have outdated information. For current information, you need to provide it in your prompt or use tools like web search. Always consider whether your question requires knowledge more recent than the cutoff.
