Artificial Intelligence

Module: fundamentals

What it is

Artificial Intelligence (AI) refers to computer systems designed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. These tasks include understanding language, recognising patterns, making decisions, and solving problems. Modern AI systems learn from data rather than following explicitly programmed rules.

Why it matters

AI is transforming how we work, communicate, and access information. Understanding what AI actually is—and isn't—helps you use AI tools effectively and set realistic expectations. AI excels at pattern recognition and processing large amounts of information quickly, but it doesn't truly "understand" in the way humans do.
