What it is

Agentic AI refers to AI systems that can act autonomously to achieve goals, rather than just responding to individual prompts. These systems can plan, use tools, make decisions, and take actions across multiple steps without human intervention at each stage.

Why it matters

Agentic AI represents the shift from AI as a conversational tool to AI as a capable worker. Instead of asking AI to write one email, you might ask it to manage your inbox. This changes what's possible with AI but also introduces new risks around autonomy and control.
