Agent Handoff

What it is

Agent handoff is transferring a task from one agent to another. A customer service agent might hand off to a technical specialist agent, or a planning agent might hand off to an execution agent. Handoffs require passing context and state between agents.

Why it matters

Handoffs are critical for multi-agent systems and human-AI collaboration. Poor handoffs lose context and create confusion. Good handoff design—what information transfers, how to verify understanding—is important for systems where multiple agents or humans and agents collaborate.
